In Antalya, forest waste such as cones, broken branches and leaves are turned into wreaths in the skillful hands of women. Trying to fulfill orders before Christmas, women produced 500 thousand wreaths throughout the year. Wreaths are sent to more than 20 countries, especially the Netherlands, Germany and England, at prices ranging from 1 to 3 euros depending on their size.
Forest garbage turned into foreign currency in the hands of women
Wreaths, which were first produced and exported 30 years ago by a German woman living in Antalya, are used to decorate areas such as doors, cemeteries and dining tables on the Christian Christmas Day, also known as Christmas Day, which starts on December 24th. Housewives from Antalya work overtime to produce wreaths. Workers collect waste such as tree branches, cones and wild fruits in the forests of the Western Mediterranean and send them by trucks to the workshops where women work. Here, women wrap colorful wild fruits and green branches one by one in the wreaths they create and decorate the middle parts with pine cones.
